Lori Meyer and Carol Lamarche
Celebrating your milestones and accomplishments is a rewarding part of the journey as a professional. Celebrating the achievements of your peers is a wonderful part of enjoying and building community. Starting in December 2012, the Technical Editing Special Interest Group (SIG) gives its friends and fans a chance to do all of these.
SIG co-managers Lori Meyer and Carol Lamarche are delighted to announce the winners of the inaugural Technical Editing SIG volunteer awards. Recipients have been chosen for both of these new awards:
• Technical Editing SIG New Volunteer—Given to a SIG member who has volunteered for the first time, to recognize newer SIG members who “hit the ground running” as volunteers, or longer-term members who never have volunteered before but stepped up for the first time
• Technical Editing SIG Volunteer of the Year—Given to a volunteer who has demonstrated consistent service to the SIG over two or more years
The intention of these awards is to honor community volunteers by awarding each prize yearly to an outstanding candidate.
Because the Technical Editing SIG is fortunate to have a powerful, clever, and motivated group of volunteers who steadfastly drive the group’s success, selecting our first SIG award winners was a challenge. Additionally, at this stage in the SIG’s development, we have a solid contingent of seasoned SIG volunteers in our ranks who have made significant contributions for the last several years. For this reason, more than two winners were selected to kick off the Volunteer of the Year part of the program.
