SIG Managers’ Column

Diane Feldman

At the beginning of 2000, the TE SIG was in a peculiar state: it had no leader or infrastructure, but it had hundreds of members. That strange juxtaposition of facts told me that editors are ready and eager to exchange ideas, concerns, and resources, but had no means of doing so. In the past year, we have made the first steps to provide the missing means.

The most visible of these is this fine newsletter, Corrigo. (Thanks to the dedication and perserverance of our stalwart editor, John Jaillet.) In addition, the SIG established an eGroup, a specialized Web site for group communication (see the September issue of Corrigo for details). Now we are pleased to announce that within the next few weeks the SIG will have its own Web site, accessible from the SIG pages of the STC site, http://www.stc-va.org.

The newsletter, the eGroup, and the Web site are all essential infrastructure elements. Now it is up to us, the hundreds of TE SIG members, to use them to turn the SIG into the valuable resource that we all want it to be. How can we do that?

• Submit articles or suggest ideas for articles to appear in Corrigo.

• Subscribe to the eGroup. Go to http://www.egroups.com/group/STCtecheditSIG and click Subscribe.

• Submit ideas for resource links and Web site enhancements to our site manager, Rebecca Ideus at rideus@email.com

• If you are attending the annual conference in Chicago, go to the SIG business meeting and the SIG networking luncheon. Both will be excellent opportunities exchange information and to generate ideas for improving the SIG. Details about these functions will be provided in the next issue of Corrigo.

• Call or email me to tell me what services and resources you would like the SIG to provide.

In short, ask both what your SIG can do for you and what you can do for your SIG!
