Of Interest: CIDM Summer 2018 Conference on Judicious Editing

The Center for Information–Development Management (CIDM) brings together the most highly skilled and talented managers in the field of information development from across the US and internationally to facilitate the sharing of information about current trends, best practices, and developments within the industry, from information development to training and support.

This summer, the CIDM IDEAS Online Conference (24-25 July 2018) is dedicated to the field of technical editing, and includes some really fascinating topics and presenters (including Yoel Strimling, editor of Corrigo!):

IDEAS is a two-day industry conference that you can attend virtually from the comfort of your own office. The conference includes five 60-minute concurrent sessions in two tracks, giving you a choice of 11 unique presentations. Participate live according to the published schedule or watch a recording of any session when it’s more convenient for you.

Quo Corrigo? Survey Results

At the end of April 2018, we sent out a survey called “Quo Corrigo?” asking Corrigo readers to tell us about what kind of content they wanted to see here.

We felt that Corrigo should only present information that focuses on technical editing, rather than on generic technical communication. But we weren’t sure what that meant exactly, so we turned to you to help us define the future scope and direction of Corrigo.

As of the end of June 2018, we’ve received 35 responses to our survey, and we thank all of you who took the time to tell us your opinions.

New Feature: From Around the Web!

As the official publication of the STC Technical Editing SIG, Corrigo is full of useful information for technical editing practitioners.

But we aren’t the only source of useful information for technical editing practitioners – the Web has lots of great blogs, articles, and sites with loads of relevant and important stuff for our professional development.

To make sure that this scattered information reaches a wider audience, we are introducing a new feature – From Around the Web!

Have you come across some information somewhere on the Web that you think needs to be brought to the attention of Corrigo’s readers? If you’ve spotted great content in the wild, send us a link to it at editor@stc-techedit.org, and we’ll consider adding it to our From Around the Web feature.

To make it easier for you to find these articles again in the future, they will be tagged with a From Around the Web tag, and the titles prefaced with the same phrase.

New Feature: Of Interest!

As the official publication of the STC Technical Editing SIG, Corrigo is full of useful information for technical editing practitioners.

But nothing can beat the experience of a live interaction, when like-minded technical editing practitioners get together to discuss ideas that lead to further professional development.

Events of interest to technical editing practitioners happen frequently (both face-to-face and online) and all over the world. And even if you couldn’t make it to one of them, someone who did can write a summary of what they learned and share it with the wider technical editing community.

To make sure that information about events of interest (both past and future) reaches people who want to know more, we are introducing a new feature – Of Interest!

Have you been to a presentation, webinar, or conference and learned something that you think needs to be brought to the attention of Corrigo’s readers? Do you know of a get-together, meetup, or talk that you think Corrigo‘s readers might want to attend? If so, write a summary of the event, send it to us at editor@stc-techedit.org, and we’ll consider adding it to our Of Interest feature.

To make it easier for you to find these articles again in the future, they will be tagged with an Of Interest tag, and the titles prefaced with the same phrase.

Of Interest: TechCommNZ Auckland Branch Event: Editing for technical communicators—without all the boring grammar stuff

STC Technical Editing SIG’s very own Chris Lovie-Tyler (https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrislovietyler/) is presenting what looks to be a fascinating talk at a TechCommNZ Auckland branch event on 29 May 2018 (https://techcomm.nz/Event?Action=View&Event_id=220&v=1)!

While it might be too far away for many of us, if you are in the area, we highly recommend that you attend – and then write up a summary for Corrigo!
